The Reverend Kate Fields, (email) a southern pastor from Nashville, was installed in 2016 as the 22nd pastor of Underwood Baptist. Pastor Kate follows in a long line of radical pastors at Underwood, a church that was founded on abolition sourced by faith in Christ in 1845.
Kate is a Baptist biologist-turned-pastor who believes that this life-changing, radically inclusive Gospel changes people and bears witness to love winning. She is deeply committed to imperfectly following the ways of Christ, and to putting feet to faith.
Kate has worked in the field of eco-justice in Appalachia, Fiji, and broader Oceania. She currently serves on the board of the Interfaith Earth Network of Milwaukee, and has served on the National Council of the Fellowship of Reconciliation USA. She is committed to theologies which include creation care and justice for people of color, the LGBTQIA+ community, and other marginalized populations. She believes how faith communities journey together through the challenges and joys of life is critical, especially given evolving times in relation to the Church.
Kate fell in love with Underwood's history and people and considers it an honor to serve as pastor. You may see Kate walking one or both of her greyhounds, and if that's the case, she hopes you holler a "hello!"
