TOUR – CHIAPAS, MEXICO – JANUARY 15-23, 2011
invite you to join the BPFNA for a transformative trip to Mexico. Our planned
itinerary includes three days in Mexico City and five in San Cristóbal de las
Casas, a city in the central highlands of the Mexican state of Chiapas. Our
visits will be centered around two seminaries -- the Seminario Bautista of
Mexico in Mexico City and the Mayan Intercultural Seminary at Chiapas in San
with long-time BPFNA friends in both cities, we’ll examine Conflict
Transformation in context -- examining how culture, history, religion,
economics and politics interplay in a multicultural setting, especially among
indigenous people. We’ll meet with people on the ground who’ll share with us
the realities – the sorrows, the joys, and the challenges – of their lives.
We’ll witness the Mexican Baptist commitment to justice and local work
dedicated to interreligious, intercultural interaction, peace and tolerance.
We’ll hear from people working to address issues of race, social inequality and
justice through community-based educational and social initiatives that promote
cooperation and solidarity. We’ll visit villages and sites of cultural and
historical importance. We’ll worship and reflect together and with our
new-found friends. We will never be the same again!
