Mission Trip to Haiti

posted Apr 19, 2010, 10:48 AM by Jamie Washam

This summer, a group will head to Haiti to help in ongoing projects there. If you would like to participate in some way, please let me know as soon as possible. You can participate by joining in the trip, helping with fundraising and gathering supplies, and by keeping the travelers and people of Haiti in your prayers.

For this trip, we are partnering with Youthaiti, an established nonprofit working on sanitation projects in Haiti. Our group will be ecumenical. In addition to members and friends of the Underwood Church community, travelers come from the Jewish, Buddhist, and the Baha’i traditions. It will be an amazing opportunity to collaborate with friends new and old, all working toward building God’s heaven here on earth.

We plan to leave around July 2 and will return on July 12. We will primarily be in Duchity, a 7 1/2 hour drive from Port-au-Prince. Our main task while there will be building arborloo toilets (for more info and pictures go to, harvesting composting toilets, and planting trees and gardens.

Some things we hope to bring and leave:

clothing (all sizes, hot weather appropriate)

games, toys, dolls

hair ribbons, pomade

sanitary supplies

toiletry items

school supplies

art supplies

easy to read English books

French books

laptops (Not too old!!) and laptop accoutrements

If you would like to help donate any of these items, please let us know.

We continue to fundraise to offset costs of the trip. Haitian coffee is available for sale each Sunday at church, and at other times, if the need may be!

We are excited about working together with our Haitian brothers and sisters, and welcome your participation, support, and prayers.
