Our current Pastor is Reverend Kate Fields (email). She comes to us from Nashville, TN and joined us in August of 2016.
The Rev. Kate Fields, a southern pastor from Nashville, was installed as Underwood Pastor on October 16, 2016. Kate follows in a long line of radical pastors at Underwood, a church that was founded on abolition sourced by faith in Christ.
Kate is a Baptist biologist-turned-pastor who believes that one's faith must have feet. Kate has done climate justice work in Appalachia, Fiji, and broader Oceania, and currently serves on the board of the Fellowship of Reconciliation USA. She is committed to theologies which include creation care and justice for people of color, the LGBTQIA community, and other marginalized populations. She believes how faith communities journey together through the challenges and joys of life is critical, especially given evolving times in relation to the Church.
Kate fell in love with Underwood's history and people and considers it an honor to serve as pastor. You may see Kate walking one or all of her greyhounds, and if that's the case, she hopes you holler a "hello!"
At Underwood Memorial Baptist, we uphold the right to freedom and diversity in belief. We unite under guiding principles rather than insisting upon rigid doctrinal conformity. We are progressive in our mission, and as a non-creedal church, we think it best that each person and each generation express their faith in ways that are relevant to themselves and to their community.
While we do not claim to be of one mind in all areas of belief, we share the following core values:
